Uses of nanotechnology in cosmetics

Posted by :archiemcphee58

Application of nanotechnology in cosmetics is not a new story.

Forages, we have observed the presence of nanomaterial in various skin care products. The day when nanotechnology would help us gain wrinkle free anti-aging look is not so far. But at present a number of cosmetic companies have started experimenting the length and breathe of nanotechnology to produce effective hair and skin care products for the consumers.

Application of nanotechnology:

Application of nanotechnology in cosmetics, has proved to be very effective. Nanoparticles are smaller in size and thus easy to get dissolved in the solution or cream products. More advantages of nanotechnology in cosmeticsare they increased the strength of the product by increasing its life, making it stain resistance, improved texture, and a much more improved UV ray protection. To add more, the nanoparticle present in the solution or cream forms a good barrier to keep away dust and other harmful agents, it’s easy to apply texture and transparency is another reason why consumers are opting for these products.

Sunscreen- Ivy plants generating nanoparticles are sued in sunscreen, it is said that they give us more protection against the harmful UV rays of the sunlight.

Skin care lotion-Nanoparticles present in the skin lotion allow it to be more lucid. The nanoparticles are very small compared to the large particles present in the lotion which makes it possible for the lotion to immerse deep into the skin layer.

Skin care creams-Creams contain proteins derived from stem cells of plants they serve as anti-aging agents that’s good for a healthy and glowing skin. To make it more effective the proteins in skin creams is enclosed in liposome nanoparticles, which penetrates deep into the skin layer for a better application.

Hair products-Some hair lotion contains a nanoparticle named as ethosomes which helps in delivering protein to the roots of the hair and generate hair regrowth.

Nanomaterials used in cosmetics:

  • Nanocapsules
  • Nanoemulsion
  • Nanosilver
  • Nanogold
  • Liposomes
  • Nanocrystals
  • Cubosomes
  • Hydrogels
  • Buckyballs
  • Dendrimers

Companies using nanotechnology in cosmetics products

Now that nanotechnology has spread its wings in every industry, skin and hair care industry is also making good use of nanotechnology application in cosmetics for more effective results. The leading companies in this industry have started implementing useful applications of nanotechnology in various products back from the year 2000. The products are approved by food and drug administration department, thus the products are safe for usage.

Loreal- They usenanocapsules to deliver protein ingredients deep into the skin. They introduced Plentitude Revitalift, an anti-wrinkle cream using nanoparticles in the year 1998.

La Prairie- Their productthe Dollars 500 Skin Caviar Intensive Ampoule Treatment, uses nanotechnology to cure uneven skin pigmentation, lines and wrinkles. The nanoemulsion used in the product gets deep into the skin acting much faster and showing quick results within weeks.

Colorescience- Manufactures a product named “Sunforgettable” which contains titanium dioxide nanoparticles.

P&G- Their brand product, Olay was manufactured with the help of nanoemulsion technology.

Thus, it comes to our knowledge that application of nanotechnology in cosmetics has a bright future. The greatest benefits of using nanotechnology enabled products have gained recognition throughout and hopefully it will take the cosmetic world in full swing in the nearing future.
